How to Make the Most of Those In-Between Moments

Marketing doesn’t always have to be a big production. Sometimes, it’s about squeezing in what you can—while waiting for school pick-up, sitting in the car before a meeting, or in the quiet moments between daily chaos. If you’ve got seven minutes to spare, here’s what you can do to keep your business humming.

1. Tidy Your Digital Space

Declutter your inbox. File away completed projects. Unsubscribe from that newsletter you never read. A clean workspace—digital or physical—can help you feel more in control.

2. Jot Down Content Ideas

Inspiration doesn’t wait for a free afternoon. In fact, some of my best creative moments have come from mundane moments, like chopping carrots. Capture ideas for blog posts, social media, or emails in your Notes app or a voice memo. It could be your next big *thing*.

3. Create Quick Graphics in Canva

Need a new Instagram post? A promotional tile? A quick refresh of your brand assets? Jump into Canva and whip up something in minutes. It took me a while to retrain my brain that graphics could only be created on a desktop, but honestly, they’ve made it so bloody easy on the app. And remember, done is better than perfect.

4. Send Those Invoices

Yes, getting paid is an essential marketing task. If there are outstanding invoices, send a friendly reminder. If you haven’t billed for completed work, now’s the time. I use Xero, and again, it’s almost too easy to do this kinda admin via the app now.

5. Reply to the 862 Emails (Or Even Just a Few)

You don’t have to clear your inbox in one go. But you can chip away at it. Prioritise responses that move the needle—potential clients, collaborations, or media opportunities.

6. Engage on Social Media

Marketing isn’t just about posting; it’s about connection. Drop a comment, respond to DMs, or interact with posts from your ideal clients. Consistent engagement builds relationships.

7. Update Your Website or Bio

Notice something outdated on your website or LinkedIn? Make a quick tweak. These small adjustments keep your brand fresh without requiring a major overhaul.

8. Record a Quick Video

Short-form content is queen. Pop on your front camera and share a 60-second tip, thought, or insight. Don’t overthink it—raw and real often performs better than polished and perfect.

9. Plan Your Next Offer or Promotion

Got a launch coming up? Sketch out key dates and messaging. Even a rough outline helps you stay ahead instead of scrambling at the last minute. Bonus tip: think about what your clients have been asking for and structure your offer around this.

10. No Nothing

Sometimes, the best marketing move is to pause. Go for a walk around the block, get some Vitamin D and just breathe. Space gives you the capacity to check in with what’s really going on. What’s working? What’s draining? Sometimes a moment of clarity can be more valuable than another to-do ticked off.

The Bottom Line

Marketing doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Those scrappy, in-between moments? They add up. Keep chipping away, and before you know it, you’ve built momentum—one seven-minute window at a time.

What’s your go-to ‘pocket’ marketing move? Let me know!
